What is the main advantage of sharing pictures using Flickr over facebook?

Possibly because with Facebook you are sharing with anyone, whilst with Flickr you tend to be sharing with people who have a similar interest, usually photography.
It also gives you a much higher resolution for your photos, and if you have a pro account ($25 per year) you have unlimited bandwidth and storage. Free accounts (like mine) still allow for much higher resolution than Facebook, and with a little bit of knowledge you can upload, and access as many of your photos as you want. Just create a group, put your photos there and even when you go over the 200 photo limit you still have access.
But the main attraction is that it allows to you meet up with people who share a similar interest. You can get people to comment on your photos, give advice on how to take better photos, give advice others on how to take better photos. There are also local groups set up on Flickr – I’m a member of a Cornwall group, and a Teesside group. Both have set up meets for members – take some photos and have a beer or ten.
I’ve met up with many friends made via Flickr and had a great time learning new ideas and ways of photography. I even met my wife there. Whilst it’s not really a dating site, you meet folk with the same interests, sometimes these things happen. 5 years on, I’m still happily married.
I haven’t had that sort of thing from Facebook. Facebook is great, but it’s aims are different.
Which is better?
Well, really that depends on what you want.
I have a Facebook account, but mostly use my Flickr account. It suits my needs.
